Losing most or all of your teeth affects every aspect of your life, including eating, speaking, and smiling. Traditional dentures, while effective at restoring some lost function, are often uncomfortable and can cause embarrassment if they slip out of place. Fortunately, implant-supported dentures offer a unique opportunity to restore multiple missing teeth and avoid the discomfort of conventional dentures. At Midwest Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, we offer several implant options to support dentures, including the All-on-4® method, Atlantis™ Conus, SmartFix®, and the LOCATOR® Implant Attachment System. With multiple locations in Chesterfield, MO, and throughout the greater St. Louis area and a team of skilled oral surgeons, we can determine the treatment option which is best for your unique smile.
Replacing missing teeth offers a wide range of benefits, especially after extensive tooth loss. With implant-supported dentures, you can experience many advantages over traditional restoration options. Securing your denture with implants can:
- Improve biting and chewing
- Make speaking easier
- Help your restoration fit better
- Create a more natural look and feel
- Prevent tissue loss in the jawbone (a natural effect of tooth loss)
- Protect your gums against discomfort and recession
In addition, many of our patients feel more confident about their smile after completing treatment. Patients with implants no longer have to worry about dentures that slip out of place in the middle of a conversation. You can also return to eating all the foods you love, without worrying about an uncomfortable or weak bite.
Implant-supported dentures are directly affixed in the jaw, creating an incredibly stable foundation.
With all these benefits, it is easy to see why many patients are choosing to upgrade their dentures to implant-retained prosthetics. At Midwest Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, we offer a range of reliable implant options to ensure your restoration is as stable and comfortable as possible. Investing in this treatment option can significantly improve your quality of life so we accept CareCredit® financing to cover out-of-pocket costs.
Is an Implant-Supported Denture Right for Me?
Good candidates for an implant-supported restoration:
- Are missing most or all of their teeth
- Have sufficient jawbone density to support implant posts
- Have healthy gums
- Are in good oral and overall health
- Do not smoke
Certain conditions can interfere with the success of your dental implants, such as gum disease or jawbone atrophy.
Our surgeons train in advanced treatment options and provide a variety of implant options to meet patients' unique needs.
If you have experienced tissue loss in your jawbone, we provide bone grafts for dental implants which can replace lost stable and create a stable base for your restoration. We can also design a plan to address other issues and coordinate with your general dentist to ensure your procedure is successful.
Your Treatment Options
There are a variety of brands and techniques available for implant placement. At Midwest Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, our surgeons train in advanced treatment options and use only the finest materials available.
With the All-on-4 system, you do not need an implant post for every missing tooth. Instead, this revolutionary method supports a full denture using as few as four precisely placed implants. Before beginning, we will take a 3-D scan of your jaw to identify the optimal location for each post, taking advantage of the densest areas of tissue.
ATLANTIS Conus Concept
Implant-supported dentures offer a unique opportunity to restore multiple missing teeth and avoid the discomfort of conventional dentures.
The Conus Concept from ATLANTIS allows you to enjoy the benefits of a removable prosthetic with the advanced level of stability offered by dental implants. The friction-retained system ensures your restoration will stay in place until you are ready to remove it. This state-of-the-art device is stable, comfortable, and palate-free.
LOCATOR Implant Attachment System
Zest Dental Solutions™ has created an innovative self-pivoting implant attachment to make dentures even more comfortable and effective. The LOCATOR attachments fit with a wide range of implants, allowing us to customize treatment to suit your unique needs. The pivoting ability of these connector pieces makes them more resilient and able to tolerate greater bite forces. In sum, the LOCATOR system is carefully designed for long-term satisfaction.
Depending on your needs, we can provide an implant attachment, bar attachment, or root attachment and choose the abutment height which will provide optimal support for your restored smile.
The SmartFix concept from Dentsply Sirona enables our surgeons to take advantage of the available bone in your jaw and often avoid the need for complicated preparatory procedures. With SmartFix, the implants can be placed at an angle, better distributing the force of your bite. By reducing the number of implants and preparatory procedures, SmartFix can save you money and minimize your treatment time.
We can also use SmartFix to perform Teeth in a Day. The unique design of this technique means we can immediately place a temporary restoration so you can enjoy full dental function while you heal. Once your implants have fused, your general dentist can attach your final restoration for a beautiful, strong, and healthy smile.
Choosing the Right Option for You
With so many choices available, it may seem overwhelming to figure out what type of implant treatment to undergo. Our team can evaluate your smile and walk you through our different products. Based on your history, goals, preferences, and budget, we can recommend the option which is best for you.
The Treatment Process
Receiving implant-supported dentures typically requires several months, from the initial consultation to your final restoration, to complete.
- Initial Consultation: You will visit our office for scans, x-rays, and a consultation with one of our skilled surgeons.
- Preparatory Procedures: Your surgeon will perform any necessary extractions or bone grafts to prepare your smile for implant placement. Typically, we have patients wait about three months after a graft before scheduling their implant surgery.
- Implant Placement: Your surgeon will embed the dental implants into your jawbone. The length of your procedure will depend on how may implants you need and the complexity of the case.
- Follow-Up Appointments: For most of our patients, we recommend a check-up after one week and another after about three months. In general, healing after implant placement takes four to six months.
- Final Restoration: Final Restoration: After implants have fully integrated you will be released to your restoring dentist to have the final restoration made. Your dentist will attach the restoration to your implants for a fully restored smile.
We provide several sedation options to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed during all your procedures.
